2009 Must Be My Year For Writing Books

This must be my year to write books and may I say, it has been a long time coming. I finished up “101 English Garden Tips” earlier this year and it is now out. Woo Hoo!

Although this one took me a while to get done because life interfered and then I got really nervous about writing my first garden book, the two new ones I am writing will be out this year, hopefully by the end of summer.

I am working on “101 Organic Gardening Tips” and “101 Beginning Gardening Tips” right now. I am about halfway finished with both books. I also have two other proposals in that I expect to be approved once these two are finished. I am not telling what they are on, but they are unique and you are sure to love them!

While working on these books, another offer has come my way. I am going to be working on a Complete Idiot’s Guide. I am in the process of writing the first chapter now. More to come on this later. It will be released in February 2010.

So, what it all boils down to is this, if you love my writing, look for my upcoming books, sign up for my newsletter and RSS my blog. Find me on social media -  twitter, my space, facebook, etc. and keep up with what is going on so you can be the first one to know the latest scoop!

New Books - 2009

I have two new books I am in the process of writing now that should be out before fall. The first one is titled “101 Organic Gardening Tips.” Choke full of cool tips on attracting beneficial insects, greening your garden and all kinds of edible and ornamental tips this book is a not to be missed classic you will read and refer to over and over again.

The second book titled “101 Gardening For Beginners Tips” has a bit of a misleading title. Although it is intended to lead beginning gardeners down the right path to make their garden successful, it has tips that even the most advanced gardener can learn from. Don’t miss the section of bees, butterflies and birds! Does the tight economy have you down? Feel like you can’t garden the way you want? Then check on the chapter on money saving tips! If all of that is not enough to tempt you, then maybe this will do it - an entire chapter on preserving the harvest complete with recipes!

Can’t wait for these books to come out? Pick up a copy of “101 English Garden Tips” to read while you wait. This book is about so much more than just English Gardens - although there are lots of tips that apply to that style of gardening in the book. If you are into heirloom plants don’t miss the chapters on antique florist plants and old fashioned plants. Planning a gothic garden or simply like dark colors? Then you must read the chapter on dark colored plants. It is sure to inspire you. There’s even chapters on scented flowers and edible flowers. You are sure to love it, so get your copy today!

Books and Anthologies

A lot has happened over the past seven years. In addition to hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles, I have contributed to eleven anthologies, wrote on Amazon Short and two books. A third book is in progress and should be completed yet this year.

Sometimes it seems like “wow, I did all that” and other times it seems like “I should have done more, much more.” I often wonder if other authors feel that way at times.

Here is what I have accomplished since 2002 in the way of books and anthologies.

• 2009 101 English Garden Tips. (Boston, MA: LifeTips.com, Inc., 2009)

• 2008 Perspective Visions: Enigmatic Masterpieces. (Baltimore, MD: Publish America, LLLP, 2008)

• 2008 Magical Gardens, an Amazon Short. (Amazon.com, 2008)

• 2007 Our Food Heritage, Past, Present, Future Baking Bread Together, Helps to Keep the Family Together, contributed some recipes, multi-contributor cookbook. (Simsbury, CT: Family Cookbook Project, LLC, 2007)

• 2006 Herbal Almanac, contributed one chapter on chocolate and one on herbal hydroponics. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2006)

• 2006 Magical Almanac, contributed one chapter on wishing herbs and one on wedding superstitions. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2006)

• 2005 All Things Chocolate, multi-contributor cookbook. (Marion, IN: Lead, Inc., 2005)

• 2005 Herbal Almanac, contributed one chapter on fire in the garden. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2005)

• 2005 Magical Almanac, contributed two chapters, one on fire legends and fire magic, and another on healing water. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2005)

• 2004 Magical Almanac, contributed one chapter on the ghosts of Key West. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2004)

• 2003 Witches Spell-A-Day Almanac, contributed twenty-five herbal spells. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2003)
.
• 2003 Herbal Almanac, contributed one chapter on an herbal meal for the one you love. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2003)

• 2003 Magical Almanac, contributed two chapters, one on the monkey man of India, and another on the magic of urban legends. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2003)

• 2002 Moon Sign Book, contributed one chapter on medicinal astrology. (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd., 2002)

I would love your feedback, comments, etc.

Getting Started On A New Writing Project

I have been looking for just the right words and the right sub-catagories for my new book “101 Organic Gardening Tips.” Starting a new project, rather it is for a magazine, newspaper or a book, seems to be the hardest part. Sometimes the words just flow and other times they are impossible to find. Is this writers’ block? Do really successful writers’ find a way around this?

I am not sure of the answers. What I do know is I hope by the end of the weekend the words will be flowing and the book will be done. A simple book such as this on a subject I am so knowledgeable about should be a piece of cake.

The other new project that I need to complete by month’s end is for a magazine called “Tropical Treasures” put out by Top Tropicals Nursery - http://www.toptropicals.com/ The article will be about caring for seedlings, again another easy topic that I am quite familiar with but am having a hard time finding the opening line.

There is an article by me in the new issue on “Growing Tropical Plants From Seed.” You can see the contents of or order a copy of this issue at http://www.ttmagazine.info/ttmagazine/html/current.htm

That is about it for new writing projects for this month.

When You Write Too Much

What an email I got yesterday. It seems I wrote too much for my “101 English Garden Tips” book, so guess what? It looks like there is a going to be a third book. I do not have the official word on this yet, but if it is a go, at least half the new book will be wrote.

Did you ever have one of those days? I was quite suprised, but hey, I can handle another writing another book, espeically when it is over half way done.

I need to get to work on my “101 Organic Gardening Tips” book. I have started, but really want to be done by my deadline. I am anxious to hear the verdict on a new book too.

I’ll keep you posted.

Anyone else ever have this happen to them?

Did You Ever Have One Of Those Days?

The sun is shining, yard work is calling - but you know you need to write. Did you ever have one of those days? For creative people I think it is harder to sit in one place and peck away at the keyboard when there is a chance to do something else that needs done, especially if you really enjoy doing it.

That is what today’s struggle is about. Do I work outside and in the greenhouse or write. Hmm, maybe if I could just write faster it would be easier. My new book looms on the horizon and I do want to get it wrote. Maybe tonight I will work on it some. I need to knock out 2,500 words minimum per day to hit my deadline. That really isn’t that much.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. What makes it hard for you to concentrate on writing?
